BPD arrests teacher & seizes cocaine, guns, cash
Police say a substitute teacher for a Beaumont middle school has been arrested and charged with dealing drugs.
38-year-old Clayton Allen has been a substitute teacher at MLK Middle School since September.
Beaumont police arrested Allen after a search of his home Monday night.
Authorities say they found eight ounces of cocaine, two guns and $5,000 in cash.
Police say they had been watching Allen for weeks.
Authorities say they recorded Allen selling an ounce of powder cocaine for $700 last Wednesday.
Police arrested Allen on Monday night at his apartment in the 2-thousand block of Dowlen just before 7:30 for delivery of a controlled substance.
Allen has been a permanent substitute at MLK Middle School since September.
BISD spokeswoman Jessie Haynes says Allen was a model substitute who always arrived on time and never had any complaints filed against him.
Haynes says there is no indication Allen ever sold drugs at school.
"We take drugs or even being accused of drugs, we take that very seriously and we certainly don't want our students around anything like that," said Haynes.
The school district has removed Allen from the substitutes' list pending the outcome of the criminal case.
