JASPER - by Steve Stewart/KJAS - The Board of Trustees of the Jasper Independent School District met on Monday evening with the upcoming budget and tax rate on the agenda.

The school board passed a $27.5 million dollar budget, awarded teachers a raise, and kept the tax rate unchanged at $1.34 per $100.00. The new budget leaves the district $240,112.00 in the black.

All educators, regardless of their years of service, will see an $886.00 increase in their annual salary, while maintenance, transportation, custodial, and child nutrition workers will receive a 3% raise on their paychecks.

Although the meeting was open to the public and included a segment specifically set aside for public comment, not one single person showed up.
