Pilot killed after plane crashes in TX
BURNET, Texas (AP) - FAA officials say a pilot who had radioed he was having trouble was killed after the single engine, homebuilt aircraft he was flying crashed near the Burnet Municipal Airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the plane crashed around noon Saturday, killing the only person onboard.
Lunsford didn't release the man's identity, pending notification of relatives. Lunsford says an FAA investigator is on the scene.
He says the man was piloting a Sonex and had gone to a pancake breakfast in Kingsland, located about 15 miles east of Burnet.
The man was headed to Burnet and radioed a friend that he was in trouble. The plane crashed about a mile short of the airport's runway.
