July 24-Leger's Restaurant Report Card
This week's restaurant report card comes to us from the Beaumont Health Department. The inspectors say they were forced to shut down two popular restaurants that earned failing grades. We've got the highs and lows in this edition of the restaurant report card.
#1 GREAT CHINA RESTAURANT 3135 GRADE=59
We begin with Great China Restaurant on Calder. Inspector lee found chicken, noodles and rice at unsafe, the inspector saw egg rolls dropped on the floor and then an employee pick them up and put them in a cooler, the wiping cloths were not in sanitizer which is necessary to kill germs. The inspector found so many serious problems she forced the restaurant to close for several hours until the problems were corrected. Great China Restaurant on Calder received a failing 59.. but has since improved and reopened.
#2 FLOYDS CAJUN SEAFOOD 2290 IH 10 SOUTH GRADE=64
Next inspector Lee checked out Floyd's Cajun Seafood on I -10 South. She found Oysters, beans and raw fish at unsafe temperatures, chicken was thawing in standing water, and there were numerous flies in the kitchen area. Floyds received a failing grade of 64 but was able to make improvements before opening and raise the score to 84. Floyds didn't have to close.
#3. HAPPY DONUTS 1302 WASHINGTON GRADE=74
Inspector Lee dropped by Happy Donuts on Washington. She found sausage and egg biscuits, kolaches and bacon egg croissants at unsafe temperatures. Roach spray was on a shelf over the mixer. Happy Donuts gets a 74.
#4. GOLDEN DRAGON BUFFET 6420 EASTEX FREEWAY GRADE=83
Now to Golden Dragon Buffet on the Eastex Freeway. Inspector Lee again.. This time she found egg drop soup, and raw chicken at unsafe temperatures, there was a small .. And fly strips hanging in the kitchen. Golden Dragon gets an 83.
Other scores include Mitch Smokehouse on Washington. They received a 96. Elena's Mexica Restaurant on Phelan scored 100 as well as the Beaumont Club on Orleans.
