Legacy Christian Academy's Scholar Athletes - March 10, 2008
Legacy Christian Academy may be a small private school in the northwest corner of Beaumont, but its students affect the community in a large way.
This week's scholar athletes, Lauren Brett and James Quigley, have full schedules as prep scholars, but they still find time to help others away from class and athletics.
James believes that the students at Legacy look up to him just as he looked at the upperclassmen when he was younger. He said it's important for him to be a role model around the school.
Lauren is a member of National Honor Society and is involved in student council, her church youth group, and various extra-curricular activities at the school.
Lauren played key roles on the girls' volleyball and basketball teams, however she did have to overcome an ACL injury to remain on the team. She said she was able to remain strong and train to overcome the injury because of her strong beliefs in her faith.
James anchored the warriors offensive line last season and plays first base on the baseball diamond. He said that he hit a homerun on the first pitch of the season.
Both students are planning to attend Houston Baptist University next fall.
You would think that maintaining excellent grades and being involved in several activities would leave a teenager no time for fun. So we asked both students who they were taking to prom.
Find out their answers by watching the video in the right column.
We'd like to thank football coach and Athletic Director Bel Cobb along with Director of Communications Staci Ishee who both helped KFDM discover these two students.
Next week, we'll travel up to Newton County to visit Deweyville High School.
