Grand jury to hear case Thursday involving high school cheerleader
KFDM News has learned the Hardin County grand jury is scheduled to hear a case Thursday involving a cheerleader who says she was sexually assaulted.
Three Silsbee High School football players, including one juvenile, were charged with sexually assaulting the girl during a party in October, 2008. In January a previous grand jury decided not to indict them.
In June, District Attorney David Sheffield told KFDM the grand jury empaneled for this session reported to Judge Britt Plunk its desire to re-investigate the case and call witnesses. Sheffield's office says the panel is scheduled to meet Thursday.
Sheffield recused himself because he is a party to a civil lawsuit filed by the parents of the cheerleader. A judge appointed Beaumont attorney David Barlow special prosecutor in the case. Barlow says he can't comment on pending grand jury proceedings.
