Silsbee father seeks justice
Jury selection begins Wednesday in Kimberly Gore Brown trial
A man from Silsbee has waited two and a half years to see a woman go to trial on charges of driving drunk and killing his daughter and her unborn child.
Jury selection begins Wednesday in the trial of Kimberly Gore Brown.
In September of 2007 a Hardin County grand jury indicted Kimberly Gore Brown on two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter.
She is accused of driving drunk in March of 2007 and crashing into a car driven by Kassie Lee. Kassie and her unborn child were killed instantly.
This is the second time David Lee has brought his granddaughter to the cemetery in Silsbee where Kassie Lee is buried.
Elizabeth Nichole is the child of David's surviving daughter. Lee says family support helps him deal with the death of Kassie and her unborn daughter, Zoey.
"Losing a child and losing a grand baby at the same time, especially it would have been my first grand baby, it helps a lot to have a family come out and support you," said Lee.
But Lee said despite that support, it's been a difficult two and a half years waiting for Kimberly Gore Brown to stand trial for Intoxication Manslaughter.
"You know what you're doing when you get behind the wheel so I hold everybody accountable for their actions. That's the choice you make when you do it," said Lee.
Kassie Lee was heading to Beaumont on Highway 105 in March of 2007. Investigators say Kimberly Gore Brown struck Lee head on. Kassie and her unborn child were killed instantly.
"There's two families hurt and unfortunately I lost some family members that I'm never gonna get back," said Lee.
David Lee will share the many stories about Kassie with his newest granddaughter.
"Kass was on the Dean's List at Lamar. She was a magnet. Drew people to her. Straight A student. All honors," said Lee.
Lee said Kassie always had a smile. A smile he'll never forget. Lee said he'll be thinking about that in court for every moment of the trial.
Jury selection begins Wednesday afternoon.
Testimony is expected to begin Thursday.
