Restaurant Report Card 6/27

This week's restaurant inspection scores come to us from the Port Arthur Health Department.

Inspectors in Port Arthur found two restaurants that were posing a threat to the community's health so they were forced to close until the problems could be corrected.

We've got the highs and lows in this edition of Leger's Restaurant Report Card.

 

#1. KFC 3749 TWIN CITY HIGHWAY GRADE=68/60/77

We begin with KFC on Twin City Highway. Inspector Freeman found german roaches, and rat droppings. The inspector suggested more frequent pest control and ordered workers to wear proper hair restraints. Those problems and others led to a failing grade of 68. When the restaurant was re-inpsected the next week.. Things actually got worse and the health department ordered KFC to close until the problems could be corrected. The next day enough of the problems were solved so the restaurant could reopen.. However KFC still scored a low 77.

#2. SONIC DRIVE IN 2648 MEMORIAL BLVD GRADE=62/90 (follow-up)

Now to Sonic Drive In on Memorial Blvd Inspector freeman found rat droppings, gnats, german roaches and house flies. Those problems and others led to a failing grade of 62. The inspector ordered the store closed until further notice. Sonic on Memorial was inspected the next day and improved dramatically. The restaurant was reopened with a much improved score of 90.

3#/ DICKINSON THEATER CENTRAL MALL GRADE=83

And finally we check out Dickinson Theater in Central Mall. Inspector Freeman found evidence of rats.. He suggested more frequent pest control and antibacterial soap at a handsink. He also instructed employees to remove food items from the floor and to do more spot cleaning. Dickinson Theater in Central Mall gets an 83.

Grade=86

The Boudain Hut

Grade=88

Did pretty well but need hair restraints

 

Vien Dong Restaurant

2523 Jefferson Drive

Grade=88

*House flies and german roaches

Grade=92
