Ceremonial razing at HJISD campus

The Beaumont mayor is helping to preserve a part of Sour Lake's history.

Mayor Becky Ames traveled to the old J.H. Henderson Middle School as she led a ceremonial razing.

Ames helped remove the name from the 1960 section of the building at a school she once attended as a child.

The start of demolition is part of a $33 million bond project passed by voters in the Hardin Jefferson ISD.

The school name will be placed on the new middle school that's going up a couple of miles away.

Construction is underway on a new elementary school at the site of the old Henderson campus.
