Beaumont woman wins $100,000 playing McDonald's Monopoly
Thousands of people play them everyday. But who ever really wins fast-food restaurant games like Monopoly at McDonald's?
One Beaumont woman did and starting next week, you'll be seeing a lot more of her, on commercials, cups and even giant posters.
"I never dreamed it would happen to me and here I am..." on a McDonald's bag.
It's the last place Michele B. ever thought she'd see her face. But even more so, she never thought that face would be next to the words '$100,000 winner.'
Michele said, "Everyone says you have an equal chance with everyone else, but you never truly believe it's gonna happen and I'm here basically to tell you it does."
Michele's luck changed around this time last year, when she entered McDonald's Monopoly game online. Just a few days later, she received a message saying she'd won, but just barely.
"When I called her back, she said 'I'm so glad you finally called, my boss said if I didn't hear from you today, I'd have to choose a new winner tomorrow.' So I said, 'No no, here I am.'"
At the time, what she had won was still a mystery.
She said, "I figured a gift card, maybe if I was lucky a $100,000, I had no idea, it took about three or four weeks before I finally heard what I had won."
It was a hundred thousand dollars. And Michele didn't believe it.
"Yeah right, no, that doesn't happen to me, it happens to other people," she said.
But this check in the mail meant it did happen to her. Michele used the money to buy elaborate gifts for her family for Christmas, along with a car for her daughter and herself.
"We've had a really good, pleasant, comfortable time since."
She says her story means it could be your story too.
"Read the rules, pay attention, have faith and it's true, it really does happen to everyday people."
And now, Michele is not only a frequent customer at McDonald's, she's a believer.
Michele says she plans to keep playing the McDonald's Monopoly game because there are no rules against winning twice.
By the way, the new game season starts next Tuesday with bags, cups, containers and a commerical featuring Michele.
