DALLAS (AP) - A 4-year-old boy and his grandfather drowned during a South Texas fishing trip when the child fell into the water and the man jumped in to try to save him.

Both victims were related to state Rep. Roberto Alonzo of Dallas, who announced the deaths and released the names of the pair.

Funeral arrangements were pending Monday for 58-year-old Ramon Alonzo and his grandson, Elisha T. Alonzo.

A statement late Sunday from the legislator says the victims were his older brother and his nephew. Rep. Alonzo said the accident happened Saturday afternoon during a fishing trip to the Crystal City area.

Police early Monday referred inquiries to the Dimmit County sheriff's department, which did not immediately return a call to The Associated Press.

Autopsies have been ordered.
