Man charged with sexual assault of child

     PORT ARTHUR- Police say a Port Arthur man is in jail after sexually assaulting a child and fighting with family members. Officers were called to the Shire Apartments located in the 4000 block of Highway 365 Monday night around 10:40.

     When police arrived they say a man and woman were fighting because the man had just sexually assaulted an eleven year old girl. Officers arrested the man and booked him into the Jefferson County Jail.

    He's charged with aggravated assault, a first degree felony, punishable by a minimum of 25 years in prison.

     The child was taken to the hospital for a medical exam.
