Bad gas in Mauriceville?

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Filling up your tank is painful enough as gas prices continue to rise, but it could cause you even more of a headache if the gas you buy causes damage to your car.

A couple from Lumberton believes it got bad gas from a station in Mauriceville.

"Stopped to get gas, the light came on," says Heath Haines.

When you're in need of a full tank of gas, the nearest station will do.

"Cost me 65 dollars," says Haines of the amount he spent on about 24 gallons of gas.

But Heath Haines learned what you don't expect to get from the pump, could look something like this.

"Repairs cost me $1241, and it's in the shop again today," says Haines.

Sludge build up ran up a large bill.

Haines wants the owner of OJ's Mobil Mart in Mauriceville to reimburse him.

"That came out of it?"

A worker at the station can't believe the repair shop pulled this from Haines' gas tank.

"They said it was contaminated," says Haines.

But his wife says she has proof from a second container they pumped, on camera .

"I'll take you out there and show you," says Ellen Albair.

Station employee Ellen Albair shows us how she tests for water in the fuel tanks.

Albair says the tanks haven't been changed in 2 weeks. And she's checked them 3 time since she received the complaints, each time it's come up negative for water.

"Came back today and got a clear container full and it's still dirty," says Haines.

"No water in my tank, perfectly clear," says Albair.

Haines isn't sure this is water, but says he is sure it came from a pump at this station.

"I've got a $42,000 truck and it's in the shop, so it kind of makes me mad. The owner won't even come out and confront me," says Haines.

Until he gets answers, Haines wants others to be aware of what gets pumped into their gas tank.

Today we tried contacting the owner for comment, he didn't return our calls.

In a previous conversation, the owner said he will be testing the gasoline. He didn't know when a representative would be collecting a sample.
