Benefit held for motorcycle accident victim, police say he was hit by drunk driver
A benefit was held this weekend for a Mid-County man who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident, police say he was hit by a drunk driver.
The family of 48-year-old Paul Bass says he is still unable to walk and is undergoing surgeries for his injuries.
The benefit was held at Eaton Meats on Nederland Avenue.
Friends and family members sold BBQ plates drinks and desserts.
The money will pay for his medical bills he's racked up since the accident on October 14th.
Police say a woman in a van pulled in front of Bass and a friend who were on a motorocyle, the driver has been charged with intoxication assault.
The family is hoping his story brings awareness to the dangers of drinking and driving.
On a side not, the family says when it rains it pours, while planning the benefit Paul Bass' daughter and her mother were involved in a major accident Friday night. They are both expected to be okay.
Another benefit for Bass will be held next Wednesday at the Chili's in Port Arthur.
The restaurant will donate 10% of any bill to the Bass family, if the customer requests to make the donation. The restaurant will be offering that all day, from 11 a-m to 11 p-m.
