Beaumont Dentists Under Investigation

November 4, 2008 - 6:48 PM

Law enforcement officers are investigating what they call a white collar drug ring involving an endodontist in Beaumont.  Police have launched an investigation to find out if a group of dentists worked together, forging more than 300 prescriptions of hydrocodone.

Investigators believe  46 year old Michael Jeansonne and several other dentists are involved in forging prescriptions for hydrocodone and lorcet.   Jeansonne was arrested outside his office where officers say he was caught carrying cocaine. He faces felony drug charges.

"They're getting prescriptions for Hydrocodone and they're getting a lot of it. It's just the tip of the iceberg we've just started this investigation," said Major Jim Singletary with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Police say Jeansonne has voluntarily surrendered his license to write prescriptions for narcotics. The Drug Enforcement Administration is sending a diversion agent to work in the golden triangle area. The goal is to target specific abuses and illegal trafficking of prescription drugs.
