Beaumont holiday event schedule

Thursday, December 3

4-8 p.m. -A Very Merry Main Street Market. Located inside the Beaumont Civic Center, 701 Main Street. Admission is $5, which is good for the entire weekend, and parking is free. Plenty of vendors will be on hand. Sponsored by the Junior League of Beaumont. Information: (409) 832-0873, or www.juniorleaguebeaumont.com.

5-10 p.m. -Holiday Skating Rink.

The skating rink will be located between the Julie Rogers Theatre, 765 Pearl St., and the Public Library. Cost is $3 for children 18 and younger and students, and $5 for adults. The cost includes skates. Scheduled skate times are: Thursday and Friday, 5 - 10 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., and Sunday 12 - 6 p.m. Information: Beaumont Civic Center at (409) 838-3435, Ext. 1.

6p.m. -Official Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The museum grounds will be the site of this year's tree lighting. Representatives from the Fire Department will place the star on the city's tree, and Santa will be there too. A local choir will set the stage. Skating will be free from 5 to 6 p.m. Information: Beaumont Civic Center, (409) 838-3435, Ext. 1.

6:30 p.m. - FREE outdoor movie. Enjoy a Christmas-themed and child-friendly movie, "Polar Express", on the Art Museum grounds.

8 a.m. - 5K Jingle Bell Fun Run/Walk.

Registration for this event starts at 8 a.m. at Crockett Street, where participants will be given a map of the route. Pre-registration forms are available at both YMCA locations or may be downloaded at www.ymcabeaumont.org.

2 to 4 p.m.-Children's Holiday Party in Downtown Museum District. FREE This popular event will be held at 600 Main St., between the Texas Energy Museum and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas. There will be hands-on art activities for the kids. Entertainment will be provided by the Fire Department Band, and Santa Claus will also make an appearance to help with a special tree lighting ceremony for the kids. Information: (409) 880-3927.

4 to 10 p.m. -Live entertainment. FREE Enjoy live music on stages located outside the Julie Rogers Theatre and in Riverfront Park.

5 p.m.-Street Parade. FREE The Beaumont Christmas Holiday Parade will fill Main, College, Pearl and Crockett streets with music, lights and candy. The 2010 Lamar football team will lead the parade, and vendors will be located along the parade route selling food and hot chocolate.
