Three people have been killed when a plane crashed into Toledo Bend Reservoir near Hemphill late Tuesday afternoon, according to the Sabine County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office is setting up a command post at the Indian Mounds Recreation Area, southeast of Hemphill.
Mike Lout with Jasper radio station KJAS flew over the scene and told us he saw pieces of the plane in the water. He also saw fuel that had spilled from the plane.
Lout says the pilot was flying at 10,000 feet and talking with air traffic controllers shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday when they lost contact with the 2006 SR-22, known as a CIRRUS.
Minutes later, witnesses reported that a plane had crashed into Toledo Bend.
The regional FAA office says the pilot was traveling from Tupelo, Mississippi to Hooks Airport in Harris County.
The plane is registered to McAir LLC of West Memphis, Ark.
