Serial Burglar Going To Prison

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

A man police call a serial burglary suspect, who broke into churches and a synagogue, is going to prison for more than 11 years after pleading guilty to the crimes.

Police say between July 10th and July 21st, Darril Brown broke into Temple Emanuel in Beaumont, Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church, St. Pius Catholic Church, and an office.

Jjudge Layne Walker has sentenced brown to ten years for the office burglary and another 18 months for the break-ins at the churches and the synagogue.

Brown has not been sentenced for another break-in at the Candyland Day Care in Beaumont that took place after he was released from jail for the other crimes.

The day-care owner, Areina Sears, wants to know what caused brown to commit the crimes.

Sears is retelling how a burglar broke a window to her day care in July. Darril Lee Brown attempted to get inside Candyland Day Care. This is video from what he left behind.

“I lost quite a few things. Not because he stole them, but because his blood splattered on everything,” she said.

Sears had to hire workers to come in and clean up the mess, including blood and glass, to make sure the kids at the day care were safe.

Candyland wasn't the only place he hit. Brown was charged with six counts of burglary. Five were to churches and of those five, three were to the Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church over the summer.

“Doesn't matter whether it's a church, a daycare, it could be someone's house. That type of lifestyle is not a good lifestyle for anybody,” said Sears.

Brown has pleaded guilty to the break-ins of the churches, a synagogue and a business, and he got an 11 1/2 year sentence.

Sears says she'd like to talk to him... And find out his motive.

“You just never know,” she said.

But now her business is back to normal, and the case against Brown is closed except for the daycare crime.
