SETX celebrates Earth Day
People around the world are celebrating earth day but there's one place in Southeast Texas where everyday is earth day. Shangri La in Orange is teaching people how to respect and care for our world. The 252 acre sanctuary hosted tours for children of all ages. Students from Mauriceville Elementary School planted flowers and learned about nature. They also had the chance to taste raw vegetables right out of the ground.
The director of Shangri La says 250 volunteers help keep the sanctuary up and running. He says there are some things you can do to help at home.
"I drove my car to work today. If I can do that three days a week then I save 60% of the energy I use," said Michael Hoke.
This Saturday Shangri La is hosting Eco-fest from 9 am to 4 pm. There will be entertainment and all kinds of environmental vendors to talk about ways to better care for our Earth.
