One by one, cars lined up on main street in Anahuac...residents like Gwendolyn Leblanc are waiting for a gift from the church.
“It's been a blessing for me,” said Gwendolyn Leblanc
Leblanc says she's grateful to receive a box of nutritious food from Lilly of the Valley Church of God and Christ, especially since she's still rebuilding from Hurricane Ike.
“I lost a lot of things during the storm, my job as well so I’m only working part time,” said Leblanc.
Pastor Lloyd Walters and his church members have been giving out food for the past two years, but after hurricane Ike, they increased their giveaways.
Pastor Walters says every fourth Saturday of the month dozens of cars fill the streets hours before 10 am...
He says it's a sight to see, and one that describes just how many people in Anahuac need help.
Pastor Walters says church members and volunteers filled up hundreds of boxes with juices, food and non perishables.
This is what's left now, but Walters says when they first opened their doors for the giveaway early Saturday morning, the room was filled with boxes.
The Houston food bank donated 84- hundred pounds of food to the church on Wednesday.
Pastor Walters says every month the church provides boxes of food to 65 percent of the residents in Anahuac...
It’s something he says he wouldn't be able to doubt without these dedicated volunteers.
“Like I say this is a blessing so I'm thankful for him and the ministry here,” said Leblanc.
The church will be serving Christmas dinner to the Anahuac community on December 19th.
The church works strictly off donations, if you'd like to donate food, money or toys to help with the Christmas ministry call pastor Walters at 350-0456 or the church at 267-3344.
