The Environmental Protection Agency says Southeast Texas has met the federal standard for clean air for the first time since the Clean Air Act went into effect about 30 years ago.

Georgie Voltz with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality tells KFDM News Jefferson, Hardin and Orange Counties met the standard by not exceeding the allowable level for ozone in a three year period ending last December.

She credits the work of industry in helping to reduce emissions that lead to the creation of ozone.
