Interstate 10 closed
Interstate 10 in Lake Charles remains closed for motorist traveling on Interstate 10 due to an overturned tractor trailer near Westlake.
Tuesday at 11:00 am, a tractor trailer transporting butane overturned near the Interstate 10 exit in the city of Westlake. State Police Emergency Services were called to the scene and closed the Interstate due to the tanker leaking butane.
The crash has closed Interstate 10 for traffic traveling east and westbound in the city of Westlake. All traffic approaching Lake Charles on Interstate 10 east and Interstate 10 westbound will be diverted onto Interstate 210. When motorist divert on to Interstate 210 near Lake Charles, the detour will take the motorist through Lake Charles for approximately 11 miles before they will connect back to Interstate 10.
State Police are advising motorist this process could last into Wednesday morning while the State Police Emergency Services safely remove the butane from the tanker. State Police are also asking motorist to make necessary adjustments if planning to travel on Interstate 10 through Lake Charles during the closure.
