Deputies make drug arrests in Jasper County

JASPER COUNTY - by KJAS - Following an undercover investigation that had apparently been going on for some time, Jasper County Sheriff Mitchell Newman and his chief deputy Ralph Nichols hit the roads early Wednesday morning with search warrants in hand.

The first arrest came shortly after 2:00, when officers went to a home in the Buna area, where they reportedly found 1 ¼ pound of marijuana. One person was taken into custody at that address.

A short time later, the officers converged on a another home on Farm to Market Road 1013, near Mount Union, where they allegedly found about 100 grams of crack cocaine, along with around 1/2 pound of marijuana.

Five individuals at that residence were taken into custody and three vehicles were seized by authorities.

Several guns and cash were also taken in the raids.

Those participating in the raid included deputies Jason McClelland, Bob Walker, Scott Jacks, Joe Sterling, Morgan Downs, and Kenny Stanley.

Newton Police Officer Jeff Richardson and his trained narcotics dog also assisted in the operation.

The names of the suspects have not been released, pending formal charges and arraignment.
