Crime numbers increase in Jefferson County

The number of reported crimes in Jefferson County increased by nearly one hundred from 2008 to 2009, in part a reflection of the number of people who've moved to rural areas, according to information from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The 2009 Uniform Crime Report released Tuesday indicates the total number of crimes increased from 667 in 2008 to 743 in 2009.

The numbers do not include crimes in cities within Jefferson County.
