Woman's trial set for Monday in capital murder of young stepson
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday morning in the capital murder trial of a woman charged with the death of her young stepson.
The Jasper County District Attorney's Office isn't seeking the death penalty against Crystal Desormeaux.
If convicted of capital murder she'll receive a life sentence.
She and her husband, Leo Desormeaux IV, are both charged with capital murder in the death of his son, Triston Dobbins.
Prosecutors say the 21 month old boy was killed during a visit to the couple's home in Evadale in December of 2007.
Investigators say Triston's father first told them the child fell in the bathtub and had a seizure. Prosecutors say after Triston was dead he was placed on his bed and no one called 9-1-1 until the next day.
An indictment alleges the couple caused Triston's death by choking him, shaking him and striking his head with or against an object.
Prosecutors say the father told them Crystal Desormeaux caused the child's injuries.
Leo Desormeaux IV is scheduled to be tried at a later date.
Judge Jerome Owens will preside over Crystal Desormeaux's trial in Jasper.
