Body Identified as Dexter Jones; Cause of Death Still Under Investigation

March 17, 2008 - 1:51 PM

Investigators have positively identified a body found Sunday in the Neches River as Dexter Jones, but police say they're waiting on autopsy results to determine the cause of death and whether foul play was involved.

A friend reported Jones missing last week while the two were drinking near the Saltwater Barrier on the Neches River. The friend told police Jones stepped away briefly, and when Jones didn't return the friend called police. Officers responded at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 8.

Searchers had been looking for Jones' body since then, and Sunday morning, Texas EquuSearch volunteers located his body in the Neches River.

Police have questioned his friend and officers plan to once again question him Monday.

No charges have been filed.
