Strong Winds in Jasper Blow Church Satellite Dish Off Base
March 19, 2008 11:38 AM
A line of storms that moved across East Texas on Tuesday produced wind gusts strong enough to sheer a satellite dish from its mooring at a church, leaving it just feet away from passing traffic on Highway 96.
It happened at about 8 p.m. Tuesday when strong winds blew the dish off its base. It flew into the air and crashed into a gas meter at Jasper Circuit Memorial Church on Highway 96.
No one was hurt.
Jasper Fire Chief Gary Lamoreaux estimates the dish is about 14 feet wide.
Firefighters were able to shut off the gas to the meter.
