Child ejected from vehicle

A toddler was ejected and four other people were hurt after an SUV left Interstate 10 in Vidor and overturned, according to information provided to KFDM News by Vidor Police Chief Eric Foerster.

Authorities received the call at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Chief Foerster told KFDM News witnesses saw the SUV swerve sharply to the right on I-10 East at mile marker 866, near FM 1135. The SUV crossed over a ditch and rolled several times before it landed upside down on the grass across from the service road.

Authorities stopped traffic on I-10 East to allow a medical helicopter to land. A 23 month old girl was taken by medical helicopter to a Houston hospital. Four other people were transported by ambulance to a Beaumont hospital.

Chief Foerster says the child and adults should be okay.

A 19 year old woman who wasn't hurt was taken to the Vidor Police Department to assist with the investigation.

The family is from Opelousas, Louisiana.

for some reason the word ejected in this story sounds more like thrown out of the car... I guess we will just have to see.

I guess the parents dont get it! ! ! A new state law as of yesterday states any child under 8 years old OR under 4'9" is to be in a car seat. Also, anyone in ANY vehicle no matter the age is to be seat belted in. This is either a freak accident or someone wasn't secured. I hope the child is ok.

The law is the same in Louisiana. They knew to buckle the child in.

reallyseriously, ejected does mean ejected out of the car. Hope this family is lucky and all are not seriously injured.
