Monitoring the tropics

KFDM meteorologists are tracking Tropical Storm Erika in the eastern Caribbean and say it's very disorganized and barely a tropical storm with winds of about 40 miles an hour.

Erika is moving west-northwest at 7 miles an hour and is moving in the direction of Puerto Rico.  The storm is expected to produce 2-4 inches of rain and 6 inches in isolated areas but the wind shouldn't cause problems for people in Puerto Rico.

It's too early to know if the storm might dissipate once it moves across land.

It's expected to make a turn to the northwest in the next 48 hours.  It's path after that isn't certain.

Rain and thunderstorms will return to the Southeast Texas forecast.  There's a 40% chance of rain Friday, 60% percent Saturday, 50% Sunday and 30% on Labor Day.

Temperatures in the morning will move back into the middle 70's with highs remaining near 90.  The humidity will also increase.
