LU president honored
As Lamar University president Jimmy Simmons serves out his final days in office, a street on the LU campus was re-named in honor of him.
With Simmons and his wife in attendance, Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames officially unveiled the new street sign.
City council members, city officials and LU administrative staff and faculty were also on hand for the event.
The official "Susan and Jimmy Simmons Day" in Beaumont was scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2013.
Simmons has been president of Lamar University for 14 years, with more than 40 years total at LU.
