Pay It Forward: March 6, 2013
BEAUMONT - By Megan Dillard - Most people eat three meals a day. Some do not have that luxury. KFDM brings you the story of a woman who is aiming to change that in this Pay it Forward segment. It started with a vision, a paper lunch sack, and a red heart. We bring you the story of a Nederland woman, her ministry, and her Southeast Texas mission. "Chris you pass out the water." "What about a sleeping bag? You need one?" Food, water, warm clothes. From the pantry in the back of her vehicle, Shilo Herrington shares and greets familiar faces. "Moses I love you. I love you too dear! I've been missing you so much." "I love her, and God bless her. I keep her in my prayers every day." "Oh I love Miss Shilo. She's done a whole lot for me. I appreciate everything she's done. That's my girl and I love her to death." They are unlikely relationships built on prayer, giving, and a true bond. "I love you. It's going to be alright." "Some of the people out on the street are closer to us sometimes than our own family." A family that started with simple sandwhiches. "The Lord gave me a vision in my mind and he showed me a lunch sack with a red heart on it. I knew that that meant feed, but I didn't exactly know the details of it." A ministry run on donations, Herrington says God has never failed to provide. "Lunch meat and bread started showing up at my front door." It goes beyond lunch. "We don't preach at someone, we don't condemn them, we don't tell them about their sin. We're just loving." A love, a reaching out, that stems from a personal pain. "It comes from a place of struggle and it comes from a place of not having a whole lot. God can take your past and what looks like not a whole lot, he can make something beautiful out of it." Something like this. Sunday at a downtown Beaumont bus station Herrington thought it was just another afternoon of giving. What she didn't know: "I'm Charlie Ozen and I'm with Cowboy Chevrolet and on behalf of Cowboy Chevrolet and Channel 6, I'm here to present yall with a check for $500 for the Pay it Forward program for yall to use this money any way you see fit in your ministry. We're so thankful. We thank you for everything that you do for everybody out here. Thank you so much. Praise God." "We can provide mosquito spray, we can provide socks and underwear. Thank you so much. thank you, God bless you." A tearful thank you just to turn around and keep giving. "There are people here who don't have lunches!" "It's a relationship and they're our family. They're our extended family." Herrington explained there are many ways you can get involved in this ministry and it's also something you can start in your own church or community. www.lovelunchsackministry.org Facebook: LOVE Lunch Sack Ministry Herrington says beyond lunches there is a great need for men's clothing and mosquito spray.

KFDM News - In the latest KFDM's Pay It Forward segment, one Southeast Texas woman's big heart is behind feeding and clothing the needy in her community.
Shilo Herrington says God gave her a vision: a lunch sack with a red heart on it.
She says she knew it meant that she was suppose to help feed the hungry, so she started providing sandwiches to those who needed a meal.
And, the ministry began to grow.
Now, she hands out blankets, clothes, water and other items to the needy.
The ministry runs on donations, and she says God never fails to provide.
"Lunch meat and bread started showing up at my front door," she said.
But it's more than just feeding and clothing the needy, Herrington says it's about God's grace.
"We don't preach at someone, we don't condemn them, we don't tell them about their sin. We're just loving."
Herrington's love for her community caught the attention of KFDM and Pay it Forward sponsor Cowboy Chevrolet.
Charlie Ozen with Cowboy Chevrolet presented Herrington with a $500 check on Thursday to honor her and her outreach work.
Herrington said she will use the money to provide socks, underwear, mosquito spray to those who need it.
