Restaurant Report: Aug. 1, 2014
KFDM News - Mobile food trucks are growing in popularity. See what Beaumont inspectors have found.
We've got the highs and lows in this weeks edition of the Restaurant Report Card.
We begin with Taqueria Lupita on College Street. Inspector Wilhelm noted food must be kept at the proper temperature. There was no running water for employees to wash their hands. Employees were also in need of hair restraints as part of good hygenic practices. There was no waste water log on the truck and the tax identification number needed to be framed on the wall. Gray water was found on the front side of the unit. All water needed to be emptied at the commissary. The food truck needed a temporary pole permit or generator and permit from building codes. The name of the business must be on two sides of the truck. Taqueria Lupita received a 62 and was closed until all paperwork was completed. Inspector Wilhelm returned and corrections had been made and the business was allowed to reopen.
Next, Taqueria 1 Taco Mas on College Street. Food in the refrigerator needed to be labeled and dated. The hand sink was broken and you could not get to the faucet because the sink was full of dirty dishes both of which are violations of good hygenic practices. Meat needed to be stored in a pan or ziploc bag not a Walmart bag. There were flies in the food truck. The shelves needed to be cleaned and the log book was not on the truck. Taqueria 1 Taco Mas gets a 68. Inspector Girard went back for a follow up inspection and most of the problems had been corrected.
And finally, inspector Girard checked out Harolds on Helbig. The business was not using a food grade hose. It was using a hose repaired with duct tape. The water pressure was too low for washing dishes and hands. The handwash facilities needed soap and towels. No wastewater log was found and the water hose was cracked. Thermometers were needed in all refrigerators and freezers. The truck also needed signage on both sides of the vehicle. Harolds gets a 74.
