A fire has destroyed a vacant feed and hardware store in Port Acres.

The fire was reported at about 4 a.m. at 5991 Jade Avenue near 59th Street in Port Acres.

Battalion Chief Gary Sewell tells KFDM News there were no utilities connected to the old feed and hardware store building, which had been vacant for a number of years.

"The fire was fairly well involved and part of the roof was starting to collapse when firefighters first arrived," Sewell told KFDM News.

Sewell says there was some wood stored in the building, which was about 350 to 400 feet long.

Firefighters remained at the scene putting out hot spots Tuesday morning.

Investigators haven't ruled on the cause.
