Lightning suspected cause of fire at Winnie Motel

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

WINNIE -- Fire investigators suspect lightning caused the roof of a La Quinta motel to catch fire, causing the business to evacuate it guests. No one was injuried.

The fire started at about 8 p.m. Monday at the building on Highway 124 in Winnie. Beaumont firefighters assisted the Winnie-Stowell Volunteer Fire Department to quench the flames within minutes.

The highway was closed in both directions to allow firefighters to lay water lines across the road.
