Humane Society Needs More Food
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Humane Society of Southeast Texas needs help. Staff members say they're in desperate need of premium puppy and kitten food.
Right now there is a lack of food for homeless dogs.
"There was a lot more food when I got here 90 days ago," said Karen Young.
"I think part of it is with school starting. People have to buy school supplies and they're forgetting about regular donations here."
Advertising to drivers hasn't solved the problem yet. Members of the humane society say they're at an emergency level need.
"Very desperate. They have to eat," she said.
Staff members are asking for premium puppy and kitty food.
They say puppies get sick when they eat lower-cost dog food and they avoid feeding the animals food made with red dye.
Even though the food shortage happens a couple times a year, staff members say this is one of the worst shortages the humane society has seen, but the staff believes they'll get the help they need.
"I hope we will. I think Southeast Texas is a good place to live and people will come through."
If you want to donate food or adopt an animal, the Humane Society is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 in the morning until 5.
They're closed Sunday and Monday.
