Manslaughter conviction brings 20 year sentence

A man on trial for murder has been convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter and sentenced to the maximum 20 years.

The jury in Judge John Stevens court found Allen Joseph Fruge, 23, guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death of Coty Day.

The 25 year old woman was killed in May of 2008 at her home on Fourth Street in Beaumont.

Police say Fruge and another man went to her home to rob her.

According to police, Fruge shot Day once in the chest while her two children were asleep.

The children weren't hurt.

Fruge faces the possibility of up to life in prison if convicted of murder. The punishment range for manslaughter is 2-20 years.
