The Secret To $2.99 Gasoline

May 6, 2008 - 6:39 PM

With gasoline prices breaking new records each week, we're all looking for the cheapest place to fill up.

Just when you thought it might be a dream, you can buy fuel for $2.99 a gallon for three years, and it starts with a visit to an automobile dealership instead of a service station.

Every time Jennifer Yowman fills up her Chevy Equinox SUV, she spends about $80.

"It's just too expensive right now," said Yowman.

Yoman travels from Irving to Port Arthur each week to visit her mother.

"If I could get something that was smaller instead of this, then I would definitely look into it," said Yowman.

She says she plans to check out Chrysler vehicles when she gets home, because of a new incentive.

"They are going to guarantee your fuel purchases, whether it be gas or diesel, for $2.99 a gallon for three years, based on the vehicles for up to 12,000 miles," said Jimmy Findlay.

Findlay is the general manager at Allen Samuels in Port Arthur.  He says 33 models, from compacts to heavy duty trucks, qualify for the 'Lets Re-fuel America' incentive.

"People are afraid that gas is going to continue to go up, so if it does, they're guaranteed to pay $2.99 a gallon," said Findlay.

Chrysler say's it'll give you a discount card.  You'll swipe it, then swipe your credit card and pump gas for $2.99 a gallon.

"I travel a lot, so that would help me a lot," said Yowman .

And Chrysler is counting on people like Jennifer helping the company improve its bottom line.

The $2.99 a gallon incentive begins Wednesday, May 7 and runs through June 2.
