Lake Charles Woman Killed in Crash
Louisiana State Police press release: One person was killed in a Sunday afternoon crash when the vehicle she was a passenger in ran off Interstate 10 west of Sulphur and flipped several times.
Killed was Courtney Guidry, 21, from Lake Charles. Guidry was not wearing a seatbelt when the vehicle she was a passenger in, ran off the roadway and flipped several times, ejecting Guidry. Guidry was transported to Lake Charles Memorial hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to investigators from Troop D, on October 18, 2009 at around 2:30 PM, the 2003 GMC Envoy, driven by Sharon Guidry, 43, from Lake Charles was traveling west on Interstate 10 in Calcasieu Parish. While traveling west on Interstate 10, a tire on the 2003 GMC Envoy blew out, causing the SUV to lose control. The SUV ran off the roadway, struck a roadway sign and flipped several times, ejecting Guidry. The driver, Sharon Guidry and three passengers in the SUV were transported to local area hospitals with minor injuries. A total of five people were in the SUV when the crash occurred.
Toxicology tests are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation.
