Helicopter Crash in Hardin County

Pilot Crawls to Safety

A helicopter crashed around 12:45 Saturday in Hardin County.  DPS Sergent Chuck Havard says the Pilot of a single engine helicopter was spraying Pinetrees and he crashed for an unknown reason.  60 year old John Middlebrooks of Alabama was the pilot.  The accident happened near Firetower Rd and Old Highway 418.  Sergent Havard says Middlebrook crawled out of the helicopter to safety.  It is unknown why he crashed at this moment.  Middlebrook was sent by Air Rescue to Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth's in serious condition.  DPS is waiting for FAA to arrive.
