Reaction to threatening message at Silsbee High School
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A message written in magic marker on a bathroom wall prompted officers to use a hand-held metal detector to check everyone who walked inside Silsbee High School.
The goal was to make sure no weapons were brought inside the school.
Investigators aren't describing the nature of the message and they're offering a $2,500 reward to find the person who wrote the threatening message.
It looks like any other day at Silsbee High School. But what you can't see is on the inside where the district said it was doing whatever it takes to ensure the safety of students and staff.
"You have to pay for what someone else did, Even though you didn't really do anything," said Caitlin Callicutt.
When high school senior Caitlin Callicutt arrived at school, Silsbee Police Officers and Hardin County Sheriff's deputies were waiting for the students to arrive.
"It's frustrating and we want to get our year over with as fast as possible. We have enough other stuff we need to deal with and worry about then threats at our school," said Callicutt.
The threatening message was discovered Tuesday, scribbled with a magic marker on a bathroom wall.
School administrators called police.
Silsbee Police Chief Dennis Allen says officers brought several hand held metal detector wands to the high school. They screened every student and staff member who walked inside.
"We're trying to make sure we keep a safe environment and regulate what comes and goes onto the school campus," said Chief Allen.
Even though the high school has two deputies on hand during school hours, the Silsbee Police Department added an officer to help monitor the school and keep the students safe.
"I'm grateful that they're here to try and make everything as safe as possible, it's just so tedious," said Callicutt.
Time spent going through safety procedures when students like Caitlin Callicutt would rather be focusing on finals and graduation.
