Explosion Levels P.A. Home, Damages Houses in Two Block Area

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

An explosion caused by a leak in a natural gas line has leveled a home in Port Arthur, and while the owners weren't there, the blast injured two people next door and caused damage, including shattered windows, to homes in a two block area.

The Port Arthur Fire Department got a call about the explosion in the 23 hundred block of Green Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The home was flattened and flames were burning when firefighters arrived.

The homeowners were away.   The blast blew out part of a home next door and caused part of that house to catch on fire.  The couple living in that home was cut by flying glass and received minor injuries.

People in a two block area said their windows were shattered and their homes shook.

Officials with the Port Arthur Fire Department say the explosion was caused by a leak in a natural gas line, and gas company representatives were on the scene.

6 Shooter L.D. Ray was also on the scene.
