Memorial Day at the beach

There are many ways to honor military men and woman who have fought and are fighting for our country.

And even during an enjoyable vacation at Gilchrist beach, a Dallas mother flew the Stars and Stripes in honor of her sons and father.

Tess and Collin Farmer bought this American flag while on vacation just for Memorial Day holiday.

“What we really wanted to do was to honor those who've served and who have died because that's what Memorial Day is all about.”

Tess knows just how important Memorial Day is to veterans as well as military men and women.  Her father fought in the Korean War and two of her sons are in the military.

“I became a cheerleader for the Marines in general and all military and I pray daily for them.

Tess and Collin drove in from Dallas.  They've spent the holiday weekend at Gilchrist.  But they're not the only one's enjoying the beach weather.

“Oh, my god… that's so incredible.”

Corrina Laura is here with her family.  They're barbecuing, playing in the water and fishing.

“It's important for us to be with family, have fun and remember all the good times we used to have.”

Good times with family members...memories created at the while remembering the men and woman who made this freedom possible.

“Thank someone for the cost they've paid, it's a thankless job, they do it not expecting anything, but a job deserving of thanks and gratitude.”

KFDM-TV has received several calls about viewers seeing tar balls washing ashore on Texas beaches.

But officials with the General Land Office say the few tar balls found are from natural seepage, not the BP oil spill.
