Comments 0 | Recommend 0
A multi-million dollar project that took months to complete is nothing more than rubble.
A fire broke out at about 6 a.m. Thursday at the Value Place Hotel on Interstate 10 near the MCM Elegante in Beaumont.
The $3 million project caught fire and had to be demolished.
Investigators believe the fire started on the top floor... and spread to the lower levels.
It took firefighters about three hours to put out the flames.
The extended stay hotel was part of the city's housing plan.
It was meant for workers who are expected to make their way here as part of the industrial boom.
It's a hard loss for the owner, but city leaders expect the hotel owners to quickly rebuild.
Firefighters say a new city ordinance is the reason the fire didn't spread. It requires fire hydrants to be installed before construction of a building can take place.
The extended stay hotel was scheduled to open in the spring. Investigators haven't determined the cause of the fire.
No one was injured.
