Hurricane Center says high chance of tropical cyclone development in Atlantic

The National Hurricane Center says there's a high chance a strong tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic will develop into a tropical cyclone.

A broad area of low pressure associated with a strong tropical wave is located about 200 miles south-southeast of the Southern Cape Verde Islands.

Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with the system is showing signs of organization, according to the National Hurricane Center.  Conditions appear favorable for the low to develop into a tropical depression later Monday or Monday night as it moves west or northwest at about 20 miles per hour.

According to the National Hurricane Center, there is a high chance, greater than 50 percent, of the system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.
