Woman charged with offering $20,000 to have husband killed

HOUSTON (AP) - A tip led Harris County sheriff's deputies to a Katy woman who allegedly offered to pay $20,000 to have someone kill her husband.

Catherine Shamp was jailed Thursday on a charge of solicitation of capital murder. Bail was set at $30,000. Electronic jail records did not list an attorney for Shamp, who was arrested Wednesday.

The sheriff's department said an informant on Monday notified deputies that he had been approached by a woman seeking the death of 38-year-old David Shamp.

Investigators say the informant was fitted with a recording device in which the wife allegedly was heard offering to pay $20,000 for the hit.

The husband was not injured.
