B-52 to fly over Jasper for Independence Day

From KJAS

by Steve Stewart

Preparations are underway for the KJAS Jasper Independence Day celebration to be held this year on Saturday, July 4th at Sandy Creek Park. KJAS has confirmed with United States Air Force Captain Tim Miller that a B-52 bomber will fly over the park at approximately 8:15 p.m., and fireworks will begin at 9:30.

Captain Miller says the B-52 that will be making a low, slow pass over Jasper will be returning to Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport following a mission.

A B-52 flyover has been a very popular event in years past during the 4th of July celebration, as well as during recent Jasper air shows. When the behemoth 8 engine planes fly over Jasper, everyone in town can see and hear them. Prior to the 9:30 start of the fireworks, there will be a dunking booth, face painting, a water melon eating contest, a bubble blowing contest, a hula-hoop contest, as well as a moon fun jump for the kids, and the band Southwind will be performing LIVE on the stage.

The Jasper Police Department will provide the color guard and Eddie Hopkins, Danny Reed and Ray Mahaffey will sing the National Anthem.
