JASPER COUNTY - by KJAS -

The Jasper Newton County Public Health District announced on Thursday that they have received their first allotment of the H1N1 "swine flu" vaccine.

The health district says the shots will be available at their offices in Jasper and Newton on Friday, December 4th, from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

If vaccine is still available, the district says shots will be given at the same locations on Saturday, December 5th from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

The Jasper clinic is located at 139 West Lamar Street, and the Newton clinic is at 210 High Street.

The district says the initial allotment will be offered to; pregnant women, people 6 months through 24 years of age, people 25 through 64 years of age with high-risk health conditions, health care workers who provide direct patient care, and those who are in close contact with infants, 6 months or younger.

The vaccination will be free to residents of Jasper, Newton, Sabine and Tyler counties, and proof of residency will be required.

The district says the initial allotment of vaccine is very limited, but more vaccine is expected on a weekly basis.
