Child fatally shot playing with handgun

COUSHATTA, La. (AP) - Red River Parish authorities say a 10-year-old boy, who had been target practicing with another boy, fatally shot himself when he pulled the trigger thinking the handgun was unloaded.
The shooting happened shortly before noon Wednesday in the community of Springville just outside Coushatta.
Investigators say the two boys had skipped school.
The other boy was 9 years old. He was not hurt.
Deputies are expected to release the name of the victim on Thursday.
