BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A state Senate panel is scheduled to consider changes to a 2007 law that allows special disability benefits for Louisiana National Guard soldiers. The head of Louisiana's veterans agency says no soldier has yet qualified for the $100,000 benefit because the law is so restrictive.

CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - A man has been arrested on allegations of keeping his 14-year-old son at home with him for the past four years, without medical treatment or schooling. St. Bernard Parish sheriff's investigators say the boy weighed only 60 pounds.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A company that packaged rubber produced at the Exxon Mobil chemical plant in Baton Rouge for 36 years has lost its contract, meaning the end of 84 jobs. Brown-Eagle Contract Services says it received a 60-day termination notice from ExxonMobil near the end of a three-year contract. The jobs will end Oct. 4.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A company has secured the permits to begin beer sales at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette's home football game tomorrow against Kansas State. Louisiana-Lafayette will be the first public university in the state to sell beer at its football games.
