Names Of Port Arthur Shooting Victims Released
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Port Arthur Police Department released the names of two of the men who were involved the shooting early Thursday morning.
58 year old Robert Stockwell of Port Neches is the man who was shot in the back of the head and died instantly.
48 year old Curtis Young was shot four times and is in the ICU at Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth.
Robert O. Howard was released from custody after police questioned him, while investigators look into his claims of self defense. Police say three men showed up at Howard's home and got into an argument.
Howard says prior to the men leaving they opened his mail slot on his front door and threatened to kill him and everyone in his house. Howard says he got a rifle, went to the door and fired at the rear window of the men's truck. police are still searching for the third man.
Howard said he feared for his life because his home had been broken into twice before.
Texas and several other states have passed a law known as the castle doctrine that allows someone to use deadly force to defend themselves in their home, car and work place.
Police are expected to hand the case over the District Attorney's Office for possible charges.
